What is eczema?
Eczema or atopic dermatitis is a skin condition that can cause a red, itchy, dry, or scaly rash. This skin condition typically begins in the first few years of life. Common triggers can include stress, heat, humidity, perspiration with exercise, skin infections, irritants such as soaps, detergents, shampoos, and bubble baths, and in some cases allergens such as dust mites, pet dander, pollen, mold, and food.
If your eczema is not improved with a good skin care plan and medications on the skin, your allergist may test for possible allergic triggers by performing
skin prick testing
or ordering
serum IgE testing
.
