What are possible reactions to sublingual immunotherapy and how are they treated?
Local reactions are common and include mouth itching, mouth swelling, throat irritation, and ear itching. This type of reaction may be improved by taking a daily antihistamine.
Severe allergic reactions rarely occur. If a severe allergic reaction occurs it will typically start within 30 minutes of the first dose, but can occur immediately after subsequent doses as well. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction are treated with epinephrine and require immediate medical attention.
